Creating Page Kits

Creating Page Kits Using Your Own Supplies
by Jeanette Giancaspro

Do you spend more time gathering your supplies than you spend actually creating your layout?

Do you have so many supplies that you don’t know where to start?

Do you find yourself spending too much time looking for that “perfect” embellishment?

If you answered “Yes” to any (or all) of these questions, have I got a checklist for you!

Like so many scrapbookers/stampers/crafters, I have struggled with all of the above.  I have spent more time choosing my supplies than I actually spent creating the project.  I have sat there staring at my shelves and boxes of “stuff” for agonizingly long periods of time.  I have gotten countless headaches from looking through my stash for just the right materials.  I got to the point where I just couldn’t take it anymore!  So I came up with the following checklist to take the pain out of selecting my supplies.  This helps me to create my own page kits for my layouts, just like those expensive kits that can be bought already put together.

Now I spend more time enjoying what I really love:  creating the layout.  I am also using more of the supplies that I already have.  Sometimes I change things up a little, but I try to keep to this list as much as possible.  I don’t always use everything on this checklist, and that’s OK too.  Feel free to adapt it to your own specific needs.  And remember to always be your creative self!

Let's Get Digital!-Using Digital Cut files on Layouts

Hi scrappers!  Welome back to Scrap your Scraps.  Today I am sharing some ideas on using digital cut files on your layouts.  One of my favorite tools in my craft room is my silhouette cameo.  A silhouette cameo is so versatile and lets you create everything from your own backgrounds and titles to detailed embellishments.
Here are some layouts I created with some digital cut files that I bought from The Cut Shoppe.

On the first layout I took the big circle and added little scraps of paper to the back of it.  When I was done adding paper to the back I cut the large circle in to 3 pieces.  To add dimension I popped up the cut file with foam squares.  The finishing touches were made with stickers, wood veneers, and a little gold stitching.

For the second layout I added some patterned paper behind the cut file then vellum and photos on top.  I used gold trimmed labels to add the names and ages of all my cuties by their pictures.  The finishing touches were added with a little bit of gold stitching and a big gold title.

Now it is your turn!  Dust off that die cut machine, bring out all your paper scraps and get to work.  For more ideas you can head to my blog here.  As usual if you have any questions let me know!  Have a great day!

Hi everyone, it's Cat here with a contribution to this wonderful post by Candace!  So I don't have a Silhouette machine, but I do have an old Cricut machine.  It's the 6x12 one so I can only do so much with it, but I decided to dust it off and see if I could make something fun with it.  I decided to just pick a cut out and fill a half page with it that I could then back with paper.  I ended making the deer one that I used for this layout, and a bunny one that I'm going to use on another layout.  I absolutely love how it turned out and I got to use up more scraps!  Everything except the very background paper that I used was a scrap from my stash!

Create Ornaments

Hi Everyone Connie Here with my first official post.  I have been making Mini albums for Christmas Presents and I have created a huge pile of scraps. Mostly strips any where from a half inch to 2 inches wide and a variety from 6 to 12 inches long. I decided to make some ornaments. They are not original ideas and have seen a variety of pictures and videos. Here are my versions.

Woven stars, and 2 different stars made with a punch.

Here are the woven Hearts.
This one has single sided paper. I only added small pearls so you can see the weaving
The strips are half and inch by 6 inches.

This one is used with scraps from the bases of my album Kraft card stock.
I added a snowflake from Stampin up

The third star has double sided paper and I added more embellishments burlap, wooden snowflake and a rustic star.

Here is a rustic star created by using a star punch and scoring all the points and it becomes 3D.

Here is another star with a punch. It is scored down the middle and folded in half and glued together.

All the ornaments were created using scraps.  There are so many different kinds out there.
Have fun and breath new life into your supplies.

Using Stitching Templates on Layouts...SEW EASY!

Hello Everyone

Today I'm sharing my love of sewing/stitching on my pocket page and traditional scrapbooking layouts.  I do not sew nor do I know how to stitch or knit.  But since Amy Tangerine started coming out with stitching templates with her different lines I have purchased all of them and LOVE using them to incorporate into my layouts.  First, I find it very therapeutic sewing these beautiful and cute stencils while sitting in front of the TV at night and second it adds some texture and dimension to my layouts without a lot of bulk.

I have created quite a few projects using my templates.
Here are just some of my favourite ones:

This 3x4 card was used as part of my first Scrap Your Scraps blog post as part of the design team June 1, 2014

Here I created my title with stitching.

I love stamping and stitching together.

My Front Cover of our 2014 Project Life album

I loved how this layout turned out with using the stitching as my background surrounding my photos.

This one is probably one of my favourite.  I used 3 different shades of Pink DMC thread to give it an Ombre effect.

Thanks for stopping by and HAPPY SCRAPPIN'!

Using stamps to match a collection's leftovers

Hello everybody!

Have you ever kept scraps from a collection that you loved, but without using it because you had not enough left? Or have you ever sighed after your unused stamps and inks, without ideas about how to use it on your projects?
Then, these ideas are for you!

I love to match stamps with leftovers, because it helps me to stretch a collection's scraps (I usually only buy a few sheets from a collection) AND it makes me to finally use my inks and stamps...  I should do it more often!

I usually start with a multicolored pattern from the collection, and I look for inks with this color palette. Then, I look for stamps that match well (here, flowers and leaves were a good option)

The easiest way is to use a small stamp several times on a strip, like I did with the dark blue flower on the card below. (I also used watercolor pencils to color it).

DIY - Die Cut and Ink Resist Cards

Hi everyone, Tiffany here with a quick DIY post. I don't know about you, but I am LOVING some new products I've seen hitting stores. Unfortunately, I'm trying to use my supplies instead of adding to them right now, and I live in an area without any of the popular big box stores. So what's a girl to do? Figure out a way to make my own, of course.

A recent trend I really wanted to try out are cards that are die cut and also have some ink resist. The particular ones I've seen are made for pocket scrapping, but I use that kind of product on traditional layouts and greeting cards too, so the possibilities are endless.

I started out with watercolor paper (inexpensive Artist's Loft 90lb)  so that it would hold paint or ink well. My Silhouette Portrait cut right through this paper with no trouble on a normal cardstock setting. I mostly used cards that can be found in the Silhouette store, but I also made a simple 3x4 rounded rectangle and added some hearts (from the Silhouette store). I've only had the machine for a few weeks and this was my second project so it's pretty simple!

For this card, I used a stamp and VersaMark ink, plus clear embossing powder to add a resist pattern in the background. The watercolor paper texture really shows here but I like the way it looks.

Some Dylusions spray ink in teal and navy finished my card. You could also apply any kind of spray ink, watercolor paint or even ink from an ink pad using some kind of dauber. A quick swipe with a baby wipe or damp towel helps the resist areas to pop.

I used this card as a focal point on this grid style layout.

I also tried to do a card using a punch instead of a die cut machine. I love the way the hearts turned out - that's a Martha Stewart punch.

The stamp I used this time was an Ali Edward's stamp for Technique Tuesday and the watercolor paper texture really made it impossible to read. I'm including it so you can learn from my mistake! If you have a detailed stamp, use smooth cardstock and be more careful about the amount of ink or paint you apply.

You could do this same technique with any punches or manual dies you have as well, and any stamp combined with heat embossing. The sky's the limit! If you give it a shot, I'd love to see what you do - comment below with a link.

Happy scrapping!
